Mobile mapping system (MMS) have been widely used in airborne, land and marine environments for over 2 decades. Such system is multi-sensor integrated primarily with a GNSS / inertial navigation system, and one or more mapping used sensors such as airborne mapping camera, terrestrial / airborne LiDAR, or single / multi-beam sonar depending on the surveying and mapping environment.
After all these years of GNSS / inertial technologies development, the MMS has been brought into the GNSS denied indoor environment, continuing its Direct Georeferencing capability to capture spatial data. The TIMMS is the optimal fusion of technologies provides both LiDAR and spherical video of a facility, enabling the creation of accurate, real-life presentations (maps, models) of interior space and all of its contents.
Alan W. L. Ip is a Technical and Support Manager, Applanix Corporation and he has been working in the Mobile Mapping Industry for over 10 years. Since 2001, Alan is responsible for the Digital Sensor System (DSS) development in Applanix Corporation for Rapid Response and small area / corridor mapping application. His work also includes multi-sensor integration such as DSS/LiDAR helicopter platform for powerline mapping, Dual DSS 4-band sensor head and Real-time Orthophoto generation for National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). In 2012, Alan relocates to Hong Kong providing system integration support for Hong Kong and China region. |
