This seminar discuss "BIG" BIM and how the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) supports it. Little BIM is what many refer to in the industry today as BIM, this addresses the discipline specific Building Information Modeling, but this doesn’t address the bigger picture. It’s also well documented that integration and interoperability are real issues with Little BIM. Big BIM is the total integration of the building with the environment that surrounds it.
An example of Big BIM might be a city, the interface and integration of intelligent infrastructure for:
· Land management—Government, mapping, planning, waste/landfill, environmental engineering
· Water and Sewer—Treatment and distribution/collection
· Transportation—Road, rail, bridge, airport, ports
· Energy—Power generation and distribution
· Communications—Telephony, cable, fiber
· Human Services— Buildings for housing, healthcare, education, culture, government
· Economic Production—Office buildings, factories, process manufacturing, raw material processing, commerce
Using SDI to manage the BIG BIM will be demonstrated in this session. |
